Purl & Paper is a knitting organiser for iPad and iPhone. Keep patterns, ongoing and finished projects, yarn records, measured swatches and creative ideas together. The library saves locally, with optional private iCloud sync in version 1.2.

No. Apple Pencil is supported for pattern handwriting on iPad, and finger drawing is available as a touch alternative. You can also use the library, counters and typed notes without handwriting.

Browse patterns and projects, use counters, add photos, and edit structured notes and yarn records. The current iPhone version can display saved freehand annotations; creating them is an iPad feature.

Yes. Your imported library and the app’s local knitting tools work without internet access. Optional iCloud sync in version 1.2, downloading online images or other external files, opening web links and accessing the App Store need a connection.

Version 1.2 adds optional private iCloud sync. On both devices, use the same Apple Account and enable Settings → Sync with iCloud in the app. Finish editing an Inspiration idea with Done, then keep the app open and wait for the sync status before switching devices. Version 1.1 remains local-only. Library backups remain a separate way to transfer and preserve a snapshot.

No separate Purl & Paper account is required. Optional iCloud sync in version 1.2 uses the Apple Account already signed in on your device.

You bring the patterns you are entitled to use. Purl & Paper is a tool for organising and working with them, not a pattern marketplace or a subscription to a pattern collection.

No. English and Simplified Chinese are available for the app interface, but your imported patterns and personal notes keep their original language.

In version 1.2, Inspiration combines To Knit and Design Studio into a creative playspace. Start with a blank space or garment template, draw, add text and photos, fill garment colours, choose a background and use 20 bundled knitting stickers. Running Stitch and Soft Yarn are handwriting styles. Ideas save locally and are included when optional iCloud sync is enabled.

Choose Export backup in Settings and save the .knitarchive file to a trusted location. Keep backups separately from the app. Archives are not encrypted by Purl & Paper; see Support for transfer and recovery guidance.
